What to do with all that cheap cantaloupe...

Here's how I'm making the most of the $.99 cantaloupes at Publix this week: by freezing them! I'm chopping up several cantaloupes and throwing them (well, not actually throwing, but "placing them" just doesn't sound quite as fun, now does it?) in the freezer. Now we can enjoy this yummy fruit for much longer than a few days, and at a great price.

Cantaloupes are a great addition to one of our favorite warm-weather treats - smoothies! Above is a smoothie we made yesterday with bananas, cantaloupe, raw carrots, strawberries, yogurt, orange juice, ice, and yes...spinach leaves. We all loved it, and I can't wait to make this delicious and healthy concoction again, with my frozen cantaloupe pieces, of course.

Anybody else freezing cantaloupe this week?

Thanks for the reminder. I buy frozen fruit packages at BJ's to make smoothies and it has cantaloupes and honeydew melon in it. Is delicious. BTW....I absolutely love your website, wish I had known about it a long time ago. I have been saving tons of money on my grocery shopping at Publix, Walmart and Target...thanks to you!

Again, Thank you!

I make homemade baby food and have used cantelope for freezing. I blend them in a food processor, then freeze them in ice cube trays. Great for adding to cereal, refreshing drinks, or a smoothie!

I didn't realize you could freeze cantaloupe either...but it sounds good to me. I also make homemade baby food and freeze it in ice cube trays...we use the Magic Bullet...it's fabulous! It works the best for smoothies too. My momma got us hooked on them!
